Key points of the high level meeting chaired by the Minister of Railways

Highlights :   The Minister of Railways chaired a high level meeting on saturday. The blog contains some of the major decisions took by him: 1.  Foot Overbridges (FOBs), platforms and pathways on platform end  to be treated as Safety items having highest priority with no restriction of budget. Earlier only the first FOB at a station was considered as essential and subsequent as passenger amenity. 2. For next 18 months, General Managers of Railway zones have been delegated powers without limit for Safety related issues. They shall intimate Financial Commissioner (FC) within a week of sanction for provision, and FC shall confirm the same within 15 days. In case of disagreement, the matter shall be put up to the Railway Board for final decision within the same 15 days. 3. Additional Escalators sanctioned at stations of the Mumbai Suburban system having high footfall with the details to be finalised within 15 days. Similar exercise will be carried out for all high use station

Stampede at Elphinstone Railway station Mumbai!!

At least 22 people were killed and total 39 people injured in a stampede at Elphinstone railway station’s foot over bridge. Stampede occurred when a heavy rain shower came and people looked to take roof of the shed of Foot over bridge and rumors did the rest of the harm. The news about the blocking of debit cards of few banks for payment in IRCTC is proved to be totally fake and payment could be done using any card using any bank’s gateway. Fake news that was been spread in last few hours. IRCTC has made it clear that it was never been done and also have given statements abiut how to use gateway of banks in the payment section. There has been a revision in the charges for usage of debit cards in the gateways like ICICI, AXIS Payment gateway , Paytm or Payu to be –   0.25%   for transactions upto   Rs.1000/- ,   0.5%   for transactions   above   Rs.1000   and upto   2000/-   and   1.0%   for   above Rs. 2000   value transactions. Third Mahamana Express flagged off from Vadodara Junction!

On friday(22/09/2017) Prime Minister Modi presented the gift of another Mahamana Express to his constituency Varanasi and to his state Gujarat.This connectivity is different from all other trains joining these cities as it takes a different route and connects Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.The route is  192 Km  longer than the shorter route it completes the journey in  26 hrs 40 min  which is nearly the same to the trains running in shorter route. Bullet Train – a service of opportunities

With the estabilshment of the foundation stone of the Ahemedabad – Mumbai high speed corridor the country is eagerly waiting for it to start.The construction of the corridor began on 14 September 2017 as scheduled and end by August 2022. The bullet train is scheduled to leave for its first run on 15 August, 2022. Creation of opportunities It is been expected that the project would be providing more that  20,000 jobs  directly or indirectly.The direct employment would be nearly of  4,000  in the operation and maintenance of the corridor. Its operation would also provide indirect opportunities for vendors, shopkeepers etc as new stations would build up.The Highspeed Rail Training centre would also create a spark of opportunities. Cost of project The project is estimated to cost  ₹1.1 lakh crore  (US$17 billion) . The cost includes interest during construction and import duties.  JICA( Japan International Cooperation Agency )  agreed to fund 81% of the total project

Track renewal to begin, to prevent derailments.

The Indian Railways are going to start the biggest track renewal exercise.The Minister of Railways has asked railway board to identify streches of track which have completed the lifespan or have a very heavy traffic on the and to replace the as quickly as possible. The national transporter is expected to renew almost 2,000 km of track by the end of this calendar year, officials said. Goyal has instructed the board to use the available rails for renewals. However, the target for the current financial year for laying of new rails will remain the same and the railways will place fresh orders for tracks. “The minister is of the view that we should get safety in place first and then focus on laying fresh routes or doubling and tripling of lines. The track renewals would have to be completed by December,” a top rail official said. “However, it doesn’t mean that we won’t meet the target of laying 3,000 km of new track routes.
