India – Switzerland MoU on cooperation in Rail sector.

In the cabinet meeting held today (04 October, 2017) decision on MoU between India and Switzerland in the rail sector was been apprised.

The major points of the Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry of Railways, Govt. of India and Federal department of Environment,Transport, Energy and Communication of Swiss Confederation which was been signed on 31stAugust, 2017 :
  1. Tilting Trains : Tilting trains that are really prominent for high speed in Switzerland and other countries which used the technology. The Tilting trains have a unique feature of tilting of the coach while the wheels and bogie remain on track, so the train must not be slowed on a curve.
  2. EMU and rolling stock : The modern EMU and rolling stock manufactured in Switzerland would be manufactured in India with the sharing of technologies.
  3. Railway Station Modernisation : The Stations would be redeveloped with the help of Swiss Companies (for few stations).
  4. Traction Rolling Stock
  5. Traction Propulsion Equipment
  6. Modern Freight and Passenger Cars
  7. Railway Electrification Equipment
  8. Train Scheduling and operation improvement
  9. Multimodal transport
  10. Tunneling technology

About – Trainsets

In India we are familiar to only on system of trains that is a locomotive leading the coaches (I say it as  leading power system ). This system is neither safe,fast nor efficient. For the replacement of these few countries have introduced  Trainset System.  Trainset system train used in paris. What are Trainsets? Trainsets are just coaches having their own traction motors for each pair of wheels which are controlled by a controller system present in the first and/or last coach in the set. Why they are fast? It is quite simple to answer this. The individual traction motors makes the power distribution good so the momentum transfer from locomotive to coaches is not required hence the speed becomes good. Know about ‘First Ever’ solar powered DEMU!!

The solared power DEMU is going was been tested for it’s reliablity and power consuption in Jodhpur division (NWR).It would be running between Delhi and Farukhnagar. Indian Railways are in their way to use more and more of renewable resources to run their train.The solar powered DEMU consisting of 6 coaches with solar panel on it’s roofs. Last year, Northern Railways had fitted one coach of the Rewari-Sitapur passenger with solar panels. However, this would be the first DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) broad gauge train, in which all coaches have solar panels, says Railways. Solar panel fitted coaches already run on narrow-gauge trains plying on Pathankot-Jogindernagar route in Kangra Valley section and Kalka-Shimla section. The solar DEMU have 6 coaches having 12 solar panel each on the roofs which are expected to generate 300W and 3.6KW per coach which are more than enough of power for running lights and fans. More
